Police: Lyons Woman Charged With DUI Had Daughter In Car
CHICAGO (CBS) -- A west suburban woman who was charged with driving drunk Tuesday night in Riverside had her 11-year-old daughter in the car at the time, police said.
An officer stopped a car at Harlem and Ogden about 11:40 p.m. because the vehicle registration was suspended for traffic violations, according to a statement from Riverside police.
When the officer approached the driver, 33-year-old Ashley S. Coleman, he could smell a strong odor of alcohol coming from her mouth, police said.
Coleman failed field sobriety tests, police said. Her driver's license had also been revoked for prior DUI convictions, and she was arrested.
Coleman, of Lyons, was charged with aggravated DUI, aggravated driving while license revoked, second offense with child in the car under 16, endangering the life and health of a child, and driving with registration, police said.
Her 11-year-old daughter was a passenger in the car, police said. Under Illinois law, individuals arrested for drunk driving with juveniles in the car is an automatic enhancement to a felony charge.
