Police: 1 Dead, 12 Wounded In Weekend Shootings

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A man was killed and at least 12 other people were wounded in shootings across Chicago since Friday evening, according to police.

A 24-year-old man was shot several times at 5:24 p.m. Friday in the 7700 block of South Lafayette Avenue, police said. The circumstances of the shooting were not immediately available.

He was taken to Stroger Hospital where he was pronounced dead, police said. The Cook County medical examiner's office did not confirm the death.

The most recent nonfatal shooting occurred about 6 a.m. in the West Garfield Park neighborhood.

The 21-year-old woman was standing in the street about 6 a.m. in the 4600 block of West Monroe when a male walked up to her, pulled out a gun and demanded her belongings, according to police. The woman ran away and the man fired at her before running off. She was shot in the upper right leg and taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in good condition.

About 10 minutes earlier, a man was wounded in a shooting in the Little Village neighborhood on the Southwest Side. The 20-year-old was in the 2900 block of West 25th about 5:50 a.m. when he saw a black vehicle and heard shots fired, police said. He suffered a gunshot wound to the shoulder and took himself to Mount Sinai Hospital in good condition.

About 3:40 a.m., a man was shot in the Logan Square neighborhood. The 24-year-old was walking from a gas station in the 2800 block of West Fullerton when a vehicle pulled up and someone inside shot him in the knee, according to police. He was taken to Stroger Hospital in good condition.

About 2:56 a.m., a 33-year-old man was driving in the 4600 block of West Diversey when he heard shots and realized he'd been hit in the arm, police said. He was taken to Illinois Masonic Medical Center in good condition.

A 24-year-old man was shot about the same time in the 3700 block of West Irving Park, police said. He was taken to Illinois Masonic Medical Center, where his condition was stabilized.

About 1:44 a.m., a 23-year-old man was shot twice in the chest, once in the shoulder and once in the left armpit about 1:44 a.m. in the 7300 block of South May, according to police. He was taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn in critical condition. Police said he was being uncooperative with investigators.

Less than five minutes earlier, a 40-year-old man was walking through and alley in the 800 block of East 82nd Street when he was shot in the abdomen, police said. He was listed in critical condition at Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.

A 35-year-old man was standing outside in the 5500 block of South Hermitage about 12:56 a.m. when he heard shots and realized he'd been hit in the foot, according to police. He was taken to Stroger Hospital, where his condition was stabilized.

An hour earlier, a 28-year-old man was outside in the 4600 block of West Gladys when he heard gunfire and felt pain, police said. He was listed in good condition at Mount Sinai Hospital with a gunshot wound to his foot.

About 10:30 p.m. Friday, a 26-year-old man was in a parked vehicle in the 8000 block of South Burnham when a male walked up and shot him in the arm, according to police. He was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where his condition was stabilized.

Twenty minutes earlier, a woman was shot in the North Lawndale neighborhood on the West Side. The 25-year-old woman was in the 3500 block of West Grenshaw at 10:11 p.m. when two males on the street opened fire, striking her in the arm, police said. She was taken to Stroger Hospital in good condition.

About 9:30 p.m., a man was shot and seriously wounded in the West Side Austin neighborhood. The 21-year-old was outside about 9:30 p.m. in the 5500 block of West West End Avenue when someone walked up, shot at him and ran away, according to police. The man was shot in the shoulder and abdomen and grazed in the right leg. He was taken to Stroger Hospital in serious condition. A police source said the man is a documented gang member and the shooting might have been gang-related.
