1 Injured, Hotel Evacuated After Oakbrook Terrace Fire

CHICAGO (CBS) -- More than 100 guests were forced out of an Oakbrook Terrace hotel overnight, and at least one person was taken to the hospital, after a fire started on the second floor.

Firefighters responded to the fire at the La Quinta Inn in Oakbrook Terrace around 9:40 p.m., and found heavy smoke and flames in the rear of the hotel.

Some of the guests got out on their own, but fire crews had to rescue several others. Firefighters used ladders to rescue three people from the third floor.

Crews contained the flames to a second floor unit, but smoke caused problems throughout the building. The building had sprinklers, but only in the laundry room. Firefighters said sprinklers were not required in the rest of the hotel when it was built.

At least one person was taken to the hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.
