Trump Uses Death of Nykea Aldrige To Win Support Of African-American Voters

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Donald Trump tweeted a response after the death of Dwyane Wade's cousin Friday night in the hopes of gaining support from African American voters.

Trump linked the death of Nykea Aldridge to his efforts to win over African American voters.

Initially, Trump did not offer his condolences. Two hours after his originally post, he tweeted again.

At a rally in Michigan Aug. 19, Donald Trump made a direct appeal to African-American voters, urging them to abandon the Democratic Party and give him a chance.

"What do you have to lose by trying something new, like Trump?" he asked them. "You're living in your poverty, your schools are no good, you have no jobs, 58 percent of your youth is unemployed — what the hell do you have to lose?"

Trump has been working in recent days to boost his appeal among African-American voters declaring last week that he could win 95 percent of the black vote at the end of his first term in office, if he is elected.

In Ohio on Wednesday, African-American Republicans cheer Donald Trump for a newfound outreach to African-Americans, but say the GOP presidential nominee must take his message beyond arenas filled with white supporters and venture into the inner cities.

We will have to wait and see if Trump will take the advice from the groups he is trying to reach.
