Humboldt Park Shooting, Crash Leave 3 Seriously Hurt

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A man was shot and critically wounded Friday night while driving in the Humboldt Park neighborhood, leading to a crash that seriously injured two more people on the West Side.

About 9:20 p.m., the 29-year-old man was at the wheel of an Acura in the 1000 block of North Monticello when someone opened fire from a dark Cadillac SUV, hitting him in the abdomen, according to Chicago Police.

The Cadillac kept following as the Acura went east in the 3100 block of West Augusta, and it then rammed the man's car, sending it spinning into two other vehicles in oncoming traffic, police said. The Cadillac then sped off.

The man who was shot was taken to Stroger Hospital in critical condition, police said.

Two people from the other vehicles in the crash were injured, with a juvenile sent to Stroger and an adult to Mount Sinai Hospital, according to the Chicago Fire Department. They were in serious-to-critical condition. A third person declined treatment, fire officials said.

No one was in custody for the shooting early Saturday.
