It’s with that sobering background that we relay you this: The Bears have better mathematical odds of nabbing the No. 1 draft pick than reaching the playoffs.

Chicago has a 7 percent chance of reaching the playoffs, per fivethirtyeight.com.¬†On the bright side — is that how it should be termed? — the Bears have the fourth-highest odds of nabbing the No. 1 pick in the 2017 draft, per ESPN Stats and Info. Chicago ranks behind Cleveland (the runaway No. 1 pick favorite at 45 percent), Jacksonville and Tennessee.

If you’re a real optimist, we’ll pass these nuggets along — the Bears have a 3 percent chance of winning the NFC North, according to fivethirtyeight.com, and less than a 1 percent chance at winning the Super Bowl.

Chicago (0-2) plays at Dallas (1-1) on Sunday night as it searches for its first win.
