1 Killed, 9 Wounded In Monday Shootings Across Chicago

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A man was killed and at least nine other people were wounded in shootings Monday on the city's South and West sides.

The fatal shooting happened Monday morning in the Riverdale neighborhood on the South Side.

Two men, ages 20 and 26, were in an argument with another person about 11:40 a.m. in the 13100 block of South Langley, when the person pulled out a handgun and opened fire, according to Chicago Police. The older man suffered multiple gunshot wounds to the chest and side and was pronounced dead at the scene. The Cook County medical examiner's office confirmed the fatality, but did not release his name Monday afternoon.

The younger man was shot in the upper chest and left arm, and took himself to 131st and St. Lawrence, from where he called police. He was then taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where his condition was stabilized.

Most recently, a 25-year-old man was wounded in a Brighton Park neighborhood shooting on the Southwest Side. He was driving at 11:32 p.m. in the 3100 block of West Pershing when someone in a gray minivan shot at him as he pulled alongside it, police said. The man was shot in the back, neck and head and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where his condition was stabilized. A police source said he is a documented gang member.

About 5:40 p.m., a man was wounded in a West Englewood neighborhood drive-by shooting on the South Side. The 19-year-old was sitting in front of a building in the 2100 block of West 68th Place when a silver car drove by and someone inside opened fire, police said. The car then sped away. The man was shot in the right leg and later showed up at Holy Cross Hospital, where he was listed in good condition.

Less than 90 minutes earlier, a 23-year-old man was shot in the Roseland neighborhood on the Far South Side. He was walking westbound at 4:33 p.m. in the 10200 block of South LaSalle when a male walked up behind him, fired shots and then ran away, police said. The man took himself to Roseland Community Hospital, but was transferred to Christ Medical Center, where his condition stabilized.

Ten minutes earlier, a 29-year-old man was walking at 4:23 p.m. on the sidewalk in the 400 block of East 63rd Street in the South Side Woodlawn neighborhood, when he heard gunfire and felt pain, police said. He was shot in the left big toe and taken in good condition to St. Bernard Hospital.

Earlier Monday morning, three men were shot in the Chicago Lawn neighborhood on the Southwest Side. At 9:13 a.m., two 18-year-olds were standing in the mouth of an alley in the 6900 block of South Western when a newer white car pulled up and someone inside fired shots, police said. The car took off after the shooting. One of the 18-year-old men was shot in the back, and was taken in critical condition to Stroger Hospital. The other 18-year-old was shot in the left hip and right calf, and was taken to Christ Medical Center. Police said he is a documented gang member. A 53-year-old man, who was not with the two younger men, was also struck in the back by the gunfire and taken to Christ, where his condition stabilized, police said.

Monday's first shooting happened at 1:03 a.m. in the West Englewood neighborhood on the South Side. A 21-year-old man was standing on the sidewalk in the 6600 block of South Claremont when he heard gunfire and realized he'd been shot in the chest, police said. He was taken to Christ Medical Center, where his condition was stabilized.

The day's shootings preceded a weekend in which five people were killed and 38 others were wounded in gun violence across Chicago.
