Cubs' Odds Of Winning World Series? Best In Baseball

(CBS) Now comes the fun part.

The Cubs finished off one of the best regular seasons in franchise history with a come-from-behind 7-4 win against the Reds on Sunday, giving them their 103rd victory of the year. Now the focus turns to the playoffs, which the Cubs will open Friday by hosting the Mets-Giants winner in Game 1 of the National League Divisional Series at Wrigley Field. There's only one goal in mind for this team: win the World Series.

So, what are those championship odds? The best in baseball, though still not mathematically expected.

The Cubs have a 26 percent chance of winning the World Series, according to FiveThirtyEight's model. That outpaces the chances for Red Sox (19 percent), Dodgers (15 percent), Indians (8 percent), Nationals (8 percent) and Ranger (8 percent).

Fangraphs also has tabbed the Cubs as the championship favorites, giving Chicago a 19.1 percent chance of winning the title. In that model, the Dodgers (17.5 percent) and Red Sox (17.1 percent) check in closely behind, followed by the Rangers (11.6 percent) and Nationals (10.0 percent).
