Battle Of The Bishops: Catholic Leaders In Chicago, Cleveland Make World Series Bet

(CBS) – The heaviest-hitting Catholic Church leaders in Chicago and Cleveland have made a wager on the World Series between the Cubs and Indians.

Chicago Archbishop Blase Cupich is betting deep-dish pizzas from Lou Malnati's and baked goods from Miseracordia, while Cleveland's Bishop, Richard G. Lennon, has enlisted the aid of Lakewood, Ohio's Italian Creations to provide a "Cleveland style feast."

Food paid by the loser will be served to the needy in the winning city.

"Both cities have waited an eternity for this moment," Cupich quipped in a news release issued Thursday.

"Archbishop Cupich isn't the only one praying for a win," Lennon countered. "If by some devilish mistake the Indians were to lose, we will hold up our end of the bargain."

The Cubs and Indians are tied 1-1 in the series, which resumes at Wrigley Field on Friday.
