3 Killed, 12 Wounded In Wednesday Shootings
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Three people were killed and at least 12 more wounded in shootings Wednesday across the South and West sides of the city, according to Chicago Police.
The most recent homicide happened about 9:40 p.m. in the Marquette Park neighborhood. Officers responding to a call of a person shot found a 24-year-old man face down on the sidewalk in the 7300 block of South Maplewood, police said. He had suffered a fatal gunshot wound to the head.
Two prior homicides happened within 20 minutes of each other in the East Garfield Park and Park Manor neighborhoods.
At 7:21 p.m., officers found a 45-year-old man dead on the ground with a gunshot wound to the head in the 3000 block of West Fifth Avenue, police said.
About 7 p.m., a 27-year-old man was shot multiple times in the 7100 block of South Rhodes and pronounced dead at Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, police said.
The circumstances of all three killings were unknown.
The Cook County medical examiner's office did not immediately provide information on the fatalities.
The most recent nonfatal shooting happened just before midnight in the Gresham neighborhood. About 11:30 p.m., a 24-year-old man was driving in the 1400 block of West 87th Street when a cream-colored sedan pulled alongside his vehicle and someone inside opened fire, police said. He was shot in the back and taken to Christ Medical Center, where his condition was stabilized.
Before that, two shootings were reported about 10:15 p.m. in the Englewood and Lawndale neighborhoods.
In Englewood, a 23-year-old man was walking in the 6600 block of South Bishop when a male emerged from an alley and began shooting, police said. The man was struck in the left hip and left arm and taken to Stroger Hospital, where his condition was stabilized.
In Lawndale, officers responded to a call of shots fired in the 700 block of South Kenneth and learned a 15-year-old boy was already taken by unknown people to Mount Sinai Hospital, police said. He was shot multiple times and listed in critical condition.
Earlier Wednesday night, a 22-year-old man was shot about 8:50 p.m. in the West Pullman neighborhood on the Far South Side. He was walking in the 11900 block of South Stewart when he was shot in the left arm, police said. He was taken to Christ Medical Center in good condition.
Twenty minutes before, a 36-year-old man was shot during an apparent robbery in Gresham, police said. He was sitting in a vehicle about 8:30 p.m. in the 8600 block of South Hermitage when a person approached and demanded property. During the altercation, the suspect fired shots and the man was struck in the right leg. He was taken to Christ Medical Center in good condition, police said.
About 6:50 p.m. in the Austin neighborhood, a 22-year-old man standing in an alley in the 5500 block of West North Avenue heard gunfire and realized he'd been hit in the buttocks, police said. He was taken in good condition to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood.
About 3:30 p.m., two teenagers were wounded in a Little Village neighborhood shooting. A 16-year-old boy shot in the ankle was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital and a 17-year-old boy shot in the abdomen was taken to Stroger Hospital, after the attack in the 3000 block of South Avers. Their conditions were stabilized, police said.
An hour before that, someone walked up to a 26-year-old man standing in front of a home about 2:30 p.m. in the 4700 block of West Van Buren in West Garfield Park and shot him in the ear, police said. He drove himself to Loretto Hospital, where his condition was stabilized.
About the same time, a 36-year-old woman was shot in the leg in the 1500 block of South Komensky in the North Lawndale neighborhood and taken to Stroger, where her condition was stabilized, police said.
Just before 2 p.m. in Austin, a 17-year-old boy was shot in the leg in the 5100 block of West West End, police said. He was taken in good condition to West Suburban Medical Center in Oak Park.
Wednesday's first shooting happened just before noon in East Garfield Park's 300 block of South Whipple, where a 28-year-old man was shot in both legs, police said. He took himself to Mount Sinai and was listed in serious condition.
At least 18 people were shot in Chicago Tuesday, leaving five dead.
