Chicago Neighborhood Flexes Its Muscle For Trump

(CBS) – What a difference a border makes.

Democrat Hillary Clinton is from Park Ridge, but just across the dividing line in Chicago is the Edison Park neighborhood. It's one of the areas Republican Donald Trump did quite well with voters.

CBS 2's Roseanne Tellez talked to some of those supporters today about what resonated with them.

"I think his success as a businessman kind of resonated with me," Fred Angelini says.

Trump support was strong in Edison Park. Some say they saw beyond the reality-TV persona he sometimes displayed on the campaign trail.

"I Think what you saw when he gave his acceptance speech was more of who he really is," Angelini says.

In Park Ridge, even Trump supporters were surprised by his victory.

"I was so happy because I feel this country is headed in the wrong direction," Teresa Hanck says. "I'm really hopeful Trump can undo some of the damage that was done the past eight years."

One Clinton supporter thinks the polls were off, because Trump supporters were too embarrassed to say they were voting for him.

"I think he was quite clear on how he felt about different minority groups, and it's hard for someone to admit that they might feel the same way," Tim Griffin says.

One Trump supporter says he was focused on the Republican's talk of change.

"We've all seen a lot of people who do a lot of talking. You respect the ones who back it up –we'll see if he backs it up," Don Grant says.

Despite the mudslinging of the campaign, the Trump supporters say they're confident he can work with Democrats and unite the GOP.
