Black Soldiers Who Fought In World War I Honored In Bronzeville
CHICAGO (CBS) -- On this Veteran's Day, veterans in Chicago's Bronzeville neighborhood paid tribute to black soldiers who fought in France during World War One with a parade and ceremony.
Local politicians, including Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle echoed President Obama's call for unity. WBBM's Mike Krauser reports.
"We are here today to honor African American soldiers," Preckwinkle said. "But I think we should remember the people of every race, every ethnic origin, every religion. From every city, town, village, county, seat in this country who have served in the military."
The parade also featured performances by local school bands and junior ROTC units.
