Donald Trump Chicago Visit Not Happening, Police Signal
CHICAGO (CBS) -- President-elect Donald Trump apparently is not coming to Chicago, contrary to earlier reports.
Chicago Police were making preparations for a Trump visit that could have happened as early as Thursday. But later Wednesday, a police spokesperson said the department was not planning for such an event. He referred further questions to the U.S. Secrete Service, which declined comment.
Trump was scheduled to visit the Midwest this week.
On Thursday, the Republican and vice president-elect Mike Pence plan to appear at the Carrier plant in Indiana.
They are expected to formally announce the company's plans to keep air conditioner manufacturing jobs in the state, rather than outsource the work to Mexico.
Trump spent much of his campaign pledging to keep companies like Carrier from moving jobs overseas.
The details of the agreement were unclear. Carrier tweeted that the company was "pleased to have reached a deal" with Trump and Pence to keep close to 1,000 jobs in Indianapolis.
Trump is also traveling to a rally on Thursday evening in Cincinnati.
