Police Believe Death Of 3-Month-Old In Lawndale Was Accidental

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A 3-month-old girl was found Monday unresponsive in her North Lawndale home.

Chicago police said it appears the death of of 3-month old Markeyah Dunbara may have been accidental. A cause of death, however, has not yet been determined. WBBM's Bernie Tafoya reports.

Police are conducting an investigation into her death in her home in the 1500 block of South Trumbull in the North Lawndale neighborhood.

News Affairs Officer Nicole Trainor said the baby's 12-year-old sister reportedly had taken the infant out of her crib early Monday morning, and back into bed with her.

Officer Trainor said that, when Markeyah's mother went to check on her around 3:30 a.m., she discovered the baby in bed with the 12-year old and the baby was unresponsive.

The Cook County Medical Examiner's Office said an autopsy has been complete, but cause of death is "pending" until the results of tests are known. No foul play is suspected.
