Zurita the penguin is seen in her holdin
Brookfield, UNITED STATES: Zurita the penguin is seen in her holding pen 01 July, 2005, at the Brookfield Zoo outside Chicago in Brookfield, Illinois. Zurita became the first single Humboldt penguin to successfully raise a chick after her mate, Gazpacho, walked off on her. Penguins need to work as a pair to raise chicks in the wild because the eggs wont incubate if they are left in the frigid air while the mother goes off to hunt for food. Biologists at the zoo helped Zurita by hand-feeding her as she lay on her eggs. The keepers said Gazpacho shouldnt be blamed for being a deadbeat Dad, he was just a teenager at the time and was too young to understand his parental duties.
