Man Tries To Lure Boys Into Van With Candy

Police said a white van pulled up next to two 9-year-old boys as they were walking home from Howe Elementary School on Monday afternoon, walking south on Lorel Avenue toward Huron Street. A man got out of the van, and said, “Come here, I got some candy for you,” while holding candy.

Police: Man Tried To Lure Girls With Candy Outside Austin School

The sisters, ages 6 and 9, were leaving the after-school program at Hay Community Academy, 1018 N. Laramie Ave., at 4:45 p.m. when a man standing next to a white van asked them, “Hi girls, do you want some candy?” according to a community alert from Area North detectives.

Andre Chatman, 23, and Carey Hollis, 28, were in a car traveling east in the 5800 block of West North Avenue about 3:45 p.m., when another vehicle pulled alongside and someone inside fired shots, striking both men, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Man Found Dead After Fire In Austin

Crews responded at 9:34 p.m. to the blaze at a two-and-a-half story home in the 400 block of North Leclaire Avenue, Fire Media Affairs spokesman Juan Hernandez said. A 62-year-old man was found dead after the fire was extinguished.

After having gone more than two days without heat, and seeing temperatures in their church drop below freezing, a group of French nuns ministering to residents in the Austin neighborhood is asking for help raising the $200,000 they need to buy new boilers.

Police: Man Shot And Killed In Austin

Officers responding to a call of shots fired about 11:10 a.m. found the victim in the 200 block of South Lotus Avenue, according to preliminary information from police. He had suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
