Man Surrenders After Taking Hostages In Portage Park Neighborhood

Around 10 a.m., police received a call of an armed man holding two people against their will inside a home in the 6300 block of West Roscoe Street. Around 2:45 p.m., the suspect came out of the house, and SWAT officers told him to stay on the ground.

Police: Man Struck By Car, Stabbed, Robbed On Near West Side

The 39-year-old was crossing the street in the 1800 block of West Van Buren Street about 9:50 a.m. when he was struck by a black vehicle, causing him to drop his cell phone, police News Affairs Officer Ron Gaines said. A male got out of the vehicle and took the cell phone, then stabbed the victim in the elbow.

His 26-year-old passenger was shot in the back and also suffered a graze wound to the neck, police said. He was being treated at Stroger Hospital.
