A man and a woman wanted for kidnapping two children from Las Vegas in 2006 were arrested Tuesday night in north suburban Russell, near the Illinois-Wisconsin border.
Rich Schmelzer, 41, was arrested by federal marshals Monday afternoon at his home in Frisco, Texas. According to Kane County prosecutors, Schmelzer traveled to East Dundee last month and fatally stabbed his 85-year-old grandmother, Mildred “Dodie” Darrington, on July 18.
