Free Rides For Seniors
Senior citizens continue to flood the RTA, CTA, Metra and Pace asking if their free ride cards are still good, in the wake of Gov. Pat Quinn’s decision Monday to sign legislation limiting the program to low-income seniors.
Legislation that would restrict free mass transit rides to low-income Illinois senior citizens is awaiting action by Gov. Pat Quinn., who previously has defended free rides for all seniors.
Passes giving free rides to seniors on Chicago area buses and trains are, in some cases, being used to rip off the system. And the cash-strapped RTA is hopping mad. CBS 2’s Mike Parker says all the fuss could help lead to the program’s demise.
