Ronald Mayes suffered blunt force trauma in a motor vehicle accident near 39th and Massachusetts avenues in Gary, the coroner’s office said. A Gary police spokesman could not be reached early Wednesday for comment.

The 16-year-old, identified as Rashaud Lewis, was shot in the 2300 block of Harrison Street in Gary, the Lake County coroner’s office said in a statement. Lewis lived in the 1000 block of West 22nd Avenue, which is about a half-mile from the shooting.
