Rules Agreed To For Juvenile Detention Hearings

Illinois will implement new rules to help ensure the due-process rights of juveniles in a settlement of a 2012 lawsuit that alleged hundreds of children on parole are illegally detained each year, according to recent federal court filings.

Study: Minority Kids Hit Hardest By Illinois Law

An Illinois law that requires juveniles accused of the most serious crimes to be charged as adults may be discriminatory, prevents judges from exercising their judgment and makes it more likely that those who are convicted will commit violent crimes in the future, according to a study due out Tuesday.
