Parents and community leaders on the South Side have taken a drastic step as they promote their vision for the future of a Washington Park neighborhood school that closed at the end of last school year.
South Side residents expressed frustration Thursday with the pace of replacing public housing that was torn down at the site of what will become a Mariano’s grocery store in Bronzeville.
Activists have said they are not giving up the fight to save a Washington Park neighborhood high school, but Chicago Public Schools officials have suggested the battle is pretty much over.
About 200 people — including 20 to 30 students — rallied outside Chicago Public Schools on Wednesday, as the Board of Education was meeting to approve the district’s annual budget.
