Roof Collapses While Firefighters Battle South Shore Blaze

A mayday response — indicating firefighters could be in distress — was called after the roof collapse, but all firefighters were located unharmed.

A 54-year-old Chicago Fire Department captain died Friday after helping fight a two-alarm blaze in Chicago’s Gage Park neighborhood.
