Predatory Criminal Sexual Assault
A west suburban police officer has been charged with sexually assaulting a child for more than 10 years, officials announced Tuesday.
Between February 2007 and February 2011, Armando Vega allegedly committed multiple sexual acts with the victim while she was sleeping on the sofa at a relative’s home. Vega knew the victim, who was younger than 13 at the time. He was convicted in February of four counts of predatory criminal sexual assault.
Armando Vega, 51, was convicted Tuesday of four counts of predatory criminal sexual assault, according to a statement from the Kane County state’s attorney’s office.
Jairo Avitia, 25, attended a bond hearing Jan. 24 after he was charged with predatory criminal sexual assault, court records show. He was ordered held on $325,000. The next day, Avitia apparently attempted to commit suicide at the jail and was taken to a hospital for treatment.
