The City Council has bristled under criticisms that it is little more than a rubber stamp for Chicago’s mayors, but a new study has revealed that label is more accurate now than ever.
Ald. James Balcer (11th) on Tuesday vehemently denied he was being forced out of his seat on the City Council to make way for a third generation of the Daley family, blaming an ongoing struggle with vertigo and post-traumatic stress disorder.
Oberman fought machine politics in his days at City Hall, and frequently clashed with former Mayors Richard J. Daley, Michael Bilandic, and Jane Byrne. He was also an ally of former Mayor Harold Washington before Oberman resigned in 1987.
He was the original Mayor Daley…Richard J…Chicago’s mayor during three decades. Now thanks to a newly opened research center at UIC, scholars and researchers can learn even more about this colorful character, reports CBS 2’s Mike Parker.
