The man who says he tricked Notre Dame linebacker Manti Te’o into falling for a fake woman he created online claims the hoax had “everything to do” with escaping from real life because he had been molested as a child.
It looks as if it was actually hoax mastermind Ronaiah Tuiasosopo acting as the voice of Lennay Kekua throughout the duration of his fake relationship with former Notre Dame linebacker Manti Te’o.
In anticipation of Katie Couric’s interview with Te’o, her show released three voicemails left on Teo’s phone that were believed to be from Lennay Kekua – the girlfriend who never actually existed.
Notre Dame linebacker Manti Te’o insisted he had no role in the bizarre hoax involving his “dead” girlfriend and told ESPN on Friday night that he was duped by a person who has since apologized to him.
According to a report from ESPN’s Shelley Smith, Ronaiah Tuiasosopo admitted to a friend in December that he was, in fact, the man posing online as Manti Te’o's girlfriend.
