Starved Rock Lodge
Last year we suggested our favorite Valentine’s day getaway destinations near Chicago, but this year we’re going to help you out without breaking the bank after it’s just been mended.
Enjoying the outdoors and nature while also relaxing can be easily accomplished by staying in a cabin. Here you will find the best places for a cabin weekend near Chicago.
Instead of going to the same old spot, check out some locations that can make your retreat a true romantic getaway.
Drive two hours away from everything you thought Illinois was, right into a state park that’ll have you falling in love with the state all over again. If you thought everything south of I-80 was a corn field, Starved Rock State Park will show you the error of your ways. With four miles of canyons slicing through sandstone bluffs, seasonal waterfalls, scenic overlooks of the Illinois River, 13 miles of hiking trails, camping and a remodeled 1930s lodge for roughing it in style, a weekend getaway to this little slice of heaven is an absolute must no matter the season.
If this winter is anything like the snowbound, blizzard bonanza we’ve had in year’s past, we may all need to travel by Siberian Husky powered dog sleds before spring! Our family has had four huskies/husky mixes over the years and they are wonderful family dogs. There’s something to be said for curling up by the fire with a pack of big, furry dogs, to keep warm on those three-dog nights.
