The La Porte County Sheriff’s Office is releasing more details on the near drowning that occurred Tuesday evening.
The program is a partnership with Connecticut-based ZAC Foundation, an organization Karen and Brian Cohn started after the death of their 6-year-old son Zachary, who became trapped underwater when his arm got stuck in a pool drain.
Police and paramedics were called to the building in the 100 block of East Oak Street at 12:40 p.m. for the medical emergency, authorities said. Bernard Hornung, who lived in the building, was pulled from the water and taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 1:24 p.m.
