Trains on three busy Metra lines were halted for about 90 minutes Monday morning, out of fear of high winds from storms that swept through the area, but it appears to have been much ado about nothing.
The pedestrian was struck about 5:10 at the Des Plaines Train Depot at 1501 E. Miner St., according to a Metra spokesman and police. Witnesses said the pedestrian, a man in his 40’s, stepped off the train platform in front of the moving train as it approached the station.
A 17-year-old boy who attended Taft High School was struck and killed by a Metra train on Friday, just blocks away from school.
Metra canceled dozens of trains Tuesday and combined several other inbound and outbound routes on BNSF and Union Pacific lines as historically cold temperatures continued to wreak havoc on the rail system.
