Hot Dougs

3324 N. California
Chicago, IL 60618
(773) 279-9550

It’s more than a hot dog joint. It’s an encased meat emporium! Of course they have a Chicago-style dog, but there is so much more. The daily specials are the most exotic, from blue cheese pork sausage to duck sausage with truffle aioli. Everybody raves about the duck-fat fries (served on Friday and Saturdays). Cash only! Expect big crowds.

6363 N. Milwaukee
Chicago, IL 60646
(773) 763-0660

It’s an iconic, classic drive-in spot on the North Side. It has straight up, no-nonsense Chicago-style hot dogs, with bright green relish and all the fixins. Good fries and burgers, too.

Various locations

A great place for a great dog, and even better if you are with friends who would rather chow down on an Italian beef sandwich or burger. They have super-quick service, too.

Glenview, IL 60025

fRedhots has been on dog scene for a few years now—with some even comparing it to Hot Dougs without the huge crowds. They have great char-dogs and excellent, classic Chicago dogs with a good snap. Plenty of other choices, too. The fries are tasty and come with different dipping sauces.

Morrie O’Malley’s is a big draw for White Sox fans since it is just a few block from the park. If you aren’t a Sox fan, it’s still worth the trip.

I agree. I dont care for Superdawgs at all. Give me a Gene and Judes or Jimmys any day and I am in heaven

Where’s Byrpn’s on this list??? Great dogs (they were invited to the White House Congressional Picnic), and fries were rated best in country by GQ magazine. Nice job CBS! Major fail.

Another person from Iowa who has lived in Chicago for all of two years wrote this article. There is no way in hell that a real neighborhood guy would leave out Gene and Jude’s.

I miss demon dogs that used to be under the L on Fullerton. Same dog as Jimmy’s (didn’t have to trek into the bad lands) and Gene & Jude’s (lines are always long) and they had great tamales too!

I go to Superdawg when I have 10 bucks to blow on a hot dog and need to clean out my colon.
