Fishing Charter

If you’re like many women, finding a great Father’s Day gift can be a little baffling unless the person for whom you’re buying is an open book. Many of my girlfriends have found their husbands and fathers are tight-lipped when it comes what type of gift would be most welcomed.  Luckily, I have an open-book husband who was more than willing to share his ideas of excellent Father’s Day presents readily available in the Chicagoland area. So if the fathers in your life have been mum about a good gift and you’re on the hunt for a few sure-fire ideas, read on!

1. Brewery Tour

Most guys really enjoy learning about things in which they have a natural interest: good food and good drink often top the list.  Send the father{s} in your life one of Chicago’s local brewery restaurants for a tour and delicious lunch with some friends.  During the tour, the guys will learn about brewing process and sample some of the best beers Chicago has to offer. And at Goose Island Brewery, they can even feast on lunch before or after the tour. Reservations are recommended for the Goose Island tour and required for the Half Acre Beer Company tour.

2. New Tools

The key to purchasing tools is to buy quality rather than buying quantity. Don’t be afraid to pay a little more because, likely, you’ll get a quality tool that will stand the test of time.  Beware of the $9.99 set of {fill-in-the-blank} tool kits from many of the big box store. While many of us could always use more screwdrivers with bits inside, most of us don’t really need it.  Try and scope out what the father is your life doesn’t have.  Does he borrow the neighbor’s ladder often? Or does he often complain that his old, cordless drill just won’t cut it for bigger projects?

I like Craftsmen tools because they are usually high quality for a good price; remember, non-power tools have a lifetime warranty.

Craftsman tools are available at Chicago area Sears and K-Mart stores.

3. Lake Michigan Fishing Charter Trip

In my mind, there aren’t many better ways to spend a day taking a fishing charter on Lake Michigan with some friends.  Even guys that have never been fishing usually have a great time.  The charter companies take a good chunk of the preparation work out of the mix by providing all the gear for your charter. All the guests of honor must bring is food, drinks and a few friends.  Perhaps, a few families could get together and split the cost between them to lessen the expense of such a memorable gift.
