Oktoberfest Celebrations In Chicago

Grab your lederhosen and das boots! Oktoberfest celebrations have taken over the city. If you're feeling festive, check out the parties and events below.

The 29th Annual Berghoff Oktoberfest is underway (September 10 – 12, 2014). Be part of Chicago's largest, longest-running Oktoberfest celebration with free daily admission from 11:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m., at the John C. Kluczynski Federal Plaza.
 
Celebrations continue inside The Berghoff Restaurant with special Oktoberfest events, including:
 
Month-long celebration inside The Berghoff Restaurant featuring specialty Oktoberfest lunch and dinner menus (September 4 – October 31)
Prost! Final Toast to Oktoberfest party (October 4)

Cactus Bar and Grill, will host an array of Oktoberfest events from Wednesday, September 17 to Friday, September 19, including seasonal brew samplings and hoisting steins for charity. The events and offerings are outlined below.
 
Two Brothers Atom Smasher Oktoberfest Lager Tasting
Wednesday, September 17; 5 - 7 p.m.
Prost! Brendan Dodt, certified cicerone and Windy City Distributing representative, will be on hand from 5-7 p.m., sampling Atom Smasher Oktoberfest (7.7%. ABV) and chatting about what it's like to be at the forefront of Chicago's craft beer scene. Pints of Atom Smasher are available at Cactus for $6 each throughout the month of September.
 
Revolution Oktoberfest Sampling Event
Thursday, September 18; 5 - 7 p.m.
Revolution Brewing representative, Kevin Kuzlik, will be at Cactus from 5-7 p.m. sampling the local seasonal beer, Revolution Oktoberfest (5.7% ABV), while meeting and mingling with guests. 16-ounce drafts of Revolution Oktoberfest are $6 each throughout the month of September.
 
Oktoberfest Celebration!
Friday, September 19; 11 a.m. - 1 a.m.
Raise a stein while helping local canines! Oom-pah-pah your way to half-liter and one-liter keepsake steins, filled with your choice of five Marzen-style beers from Chicago, Germany and beyond: Revolution Oktoberfest; Two Brothers Atom Smasher Oktoberfest Lager; Left Hand Oktoberfest Marzen Lager; Sam Adams OctoberFest; and Weihenstephaner Oktoberfestbier. Liter steins are $15 and half-liter steins are $9. Pints are $6 each throughout the month of September. Proceeds from each souvenir stein sale will be donated to Chicago Canine Rescue.

One of Chicago's most popular celebrations of fall and all things Bavarian -- Oktoberfest Chicago at St. Alphonsus returns for its 14th year. It takes place both in and outside the church.
 
Adding to the weekend's excitement is Friday's popular craft beer "tasting night" in the parish's German Hall.
 
Another highlight (in addition to beer, brats, pretzels, and pop/German acts on two music stages) is Sunday afternoon's "Kinderfest" featuring games and other activities for youngsters and families.

From Saturday, September 20 – Sunday, October 5th, Taco Joint in Lincoln Park and River North will celebrate Oktoberfest with a Mexican twist. Specials include a German-inspired, Jalisco Bratwurst Taco ($3), Revolution Brewing's Oktoberfest ($4), and Maestro Dobel Diamond Tequila ($5/$10). A packaged combination of all three is available ($10. The Oktoberfiesta specials will be available for lunch, dinner and late night dining.
