There’s no question whether or not the 70’s are back. When I went home for the holidays I happily accepted my mother’s old chunky bangles, lime-green wedges, and yes – a faux fur vest. Love it or hate it, its back! We’ve seen it all over Hollywood, here on style icon Elle MacPherson, and now we’re seeing it all over our fair city. Pair it with skinny jeans, an eye-catching necklace, and cute pair of boots and you’ve got yourself an ensemble that really turns heads! Check out a few ways to pull the outfit together for less.
Visit one of Forever 21’s locations in the city and pick up a faux fur vest for $37.80. I find mine at the North Michigan Ave., with a slew of options–short, long, leopard print, with trim or without–you’re sure to find one that fits your individual style. If you’re willing to spend a bit more, Francesca’s has fun, PETA-friendly vests for $54.00.
The great thing about H&M is that they offer on-trend clothes and accessories for the fraction of the price of their competitors. I can’t ever leave empty handed! And why would you want to? Grab a t-shirt to wear under your new fur vest. Throw down $20 or less and walk out with a handful of shirts and accessories! H&M is the perfect place to find a statement necklace that suits your style. Look for something chunky with a pop of color for this fun ensemble.
One of the newer shops on Michigan Avenue, this European-born store offers Chicagoans fashion-forward, edgy styles. Topshop carries a great selection of skinny jeans and pants in fun, 70’s inspired colors and styles. Try their Stretch Skinny Trouser in bottle green similar to Elle’s look. The ankle and pocket zippers add extra detailing that really completes the look for $76.00.
Steve Madden has yet to disappoint me when I’m on the hunt for cute, reasonably priced boots. Whether you’re a lace up, wedge, or over-the knee kind of gal, you’re sure to find what you’re looking for without breaking the bank. Their FRENCCHH boot is the perfect fusion of equestrian meets biker chick.
