There are far more than 10 reasons to visit Mexico City, but here are some important reasons to consider.

10. Short Flight

For most of the continental United States, flying to Mexico is a lot shorter, not to mention cheaper, than flying to Europe or other international vacation destinations. This also makes Mexico City a good compromise for groups meeting each other for vacation from different parts of the country.

9. Weather, Weather, Weather

Of course, Mexico City is warm and sunny, making it a desirable destination for northerners, especially during the winter months. There is nothing that makes a Mexican vacation more appealing than warm weather in the dead of winter. Mexico City can get humid, but temperatures in December and January are typically in the mid-seventies.

8. The Food

It is no secret that Mexican food is delicious, and in Mexico City, it is easy to find the best of the best. It is a large enough city that there are restaurants to meet every need or taste. A huge bonus of vacationing in Mexico City as opposed to Europe or in the U.S. is that going out to eat is markedly more affordable. Treating the whole family to dinner has never been easier.

7. A Different Adventure

When planning a vacation, Mexico City is not usually the first place that comes to mind. It isn't a typical tourist destination like Paris or Rome, and thus doesn't have that over-exposed feel. Instead, visiting Mexico City is more of a true adventure. Sure, do some research and planning before heading there, but leave some of your days in the city totally free in order to get totally immersed in the culture and unique vibe of Mexico City.

6. Lots To Explore

Mexico City is surprisingly big. In fact, Mexico City is home to 8.8 million people - that is more than New York City! A huge population like this creates a bubble of culture. There are countless galleries, eateries and shops. It is easy to do something totally different every day in Mexico City because there is simply so much going on. Explore the streets and meet the people without ever seeing the same thing twice. There are trains, subways, buses and cabs available - go out and try something new!

5. Architecture & Public Art

Mexico City is well known for its beautiful colonial architecture and public art. There are pyramid-type structures in many city squares and countless murals. The modern and contemporary architecture in the city is quite unique as well, such as the Museo Soumaya in the Nuevo Polanco district, which is a stunning curved silver building unlike any other. The city's many markets are also a great place to find art - and, of course, handmade crafts and souvenirs.

4. Budget-Friendly

Another major benefit of vacationing in Mexico is the price tag. Not only are the flights to Mexico City fairly affordable, but the city itself is quite budget-friendly. Finding restaurants where the typical meal is between $5-$10 is easy, and museum entry fares and public transit are also cheaper than in most American cities. Plus, most places accept credit cards, making meals and activities even more convenient to plan.

3. Easy Day Trips

Mexico City is centrally located, making it a cinch to plan day trips outside of the city to some other unique sites in Mexico. For example, 30 miles west of Mexico City is Teotihuacan - a UNESCO World Heritage Site and home of the Pyramids of the Sun and Moon. Another cultural center, the city of Puebla is also a short drive away. Puebla was an extremely important city during colonial times and has some of the most beautiful architecture in Mexico.

2. World-Class Museums
Like many capital cities around the world, Mexico City has become the cultural hub of Mexico and therefore is home to the best art and anthropological museums in the country. From ancient to avant garde, there are art museums that feature every style. Museo Tamayo features work by Picasso, Kandinsky, Warhol and other modern masters and the Museo Soumaya has the second largest collection of Rodin sculptures in the world. All told, Mexico City has more than 150 museums.

1. Vibrant Culture & Friendly People

The one thing that makes a vacation truly unforgettable is the people. The friendly waiters, informative tour guides and strangers more than willing to give directions make Mexico City truly one of the best places in the world. Their warm demeanor and natural willingness to help makes this an easy place to be a tourist.
