Child Killed, 2 Critically Injured, In Pilsen Fire

CHICAGO (STMW) -- A 3-year-old boy is dead and three people injured-- including a firefighter and a 1-year-old girl -- after a fire Saturday in the Pilsen neighborhood, officials said.

About 4:18 p.m., a still and box alarm and ambulances were called for a fire at a four-story building at 1752 W. Cullerton St., according to Fire Media Affairs spokesman Richard Rosado. The fire was on the second and third floors of the building.
Rosado said one person was dead on the scene, although the Cook County Medical Examiner's office could not immediately confirm the fatality. The deceased is a 3-year-old boy, according to police News Affairs Officer Veejay Zala, citing preliminary information.
A male firefighter suffered back pain and was taken to University of Illinois Medical Center at Chicago, Rosado said.
Two people suffered smoke inhalation, Rosado said. A 1-year-old-girl was taken in critical condition to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County, Zala said.
An adult man was taken in critical condition to Mount Sinai Hospital, Zala said.
The fire was extinguished at 5:20 p.m.
