4 Wanted In Street Robbery Of Up To $20K

CHICAGO (CBS) - Four robbers made off with a reported up to $20,000 dollars from a man in the West Rogers Park neighborhood Wednesday night.

Police questioned three persons of interest in the case, but they were released without being charged Thursday.

Missing is a leather briefcase or satchel containing $10,000 to $20,000 that the victim had collected from cab leases, police said.

The robbery happened about 8 p.m. in the 2600 block of West Peterson Avenue, police News Affairs Officer Veejay Zala said. A man was approached by four males who demanded money, hit him and grabbed a bag from him which apparently contained a large amount of money.

The four fled in a van after grabbing the bag, Zala said.

Three people believed to involved were stopped a short time later nearby by Rogers Park District police officers and were questioned.

But all three men were released without being charged, a Rogers Park District police lieutenant said.

The victim was struck with a hand and no weapon was used in the attack, Zala said. He was not hurt.

The block where the incident happened includes Green Briar Park and its historic fieldhouse. It was not immediately learned exactly where on the block the robbery occurred.
