Shoppers Warned On Counterfeit Merchandise

CHICAGO (WBBM) - As you wrap up your Christmas shopping, officials say you should be wary of counterfeit merchandise.

Just this week, Cook County Sheriff's Police raided a West Side warehouse and confiscated hundreds of thousands of dollars in knock-off, counterfeit Blackhawks and Bears wear.

Last weekend, Chicago police arrested a North Side man who allegedly had hundreds of fake designer watches, fake Air Jordan shoes and other items worth about $40,000.

The Chicago Tribune reports you're more likely to wind up with counterfeit merchandise when buying online from sellers you really don't know. U.S. Customs advises you to stick with the legitimate retailer or authorized re-seller to be sure you're getting the real deal.
