Altered Dry-Cleaning Labels Could Be Dangerous

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WBBM) -- The Illinois State Fire Marshal's office is warning fire departments about altered labels on dry-cleaning equipment that could lead to an explosion.

WBBM Newsradio 780's Melissa Hahn reports that professional dry-cleaning equipment can either handle combustibles or not. But someone might be altering the labels.

Fire Marshal's office spokesman Louis Pukelis said his agency is getting the word out for safety, and for possible reporting should there be an explosion.

"We're advising fire departments throughout Illinois about this situation, via Facebook, Twitter, the Internet, and alerts that we send to the fire community on a regular basis," Pukelis said.

Pukelis says he has heard no reports of dry-cleaning explosions in Illinois, and the matter has been turned over to the Illinois Attorney General's office.
