Man Shot Dead On West Side Street

CHICAGO (STMW) - A man was shot to death on a West Side street Monday morning.

Before he was shot the victim may have gotten into an altercation with the assailant, who then fled the scene, police said.

The shooting happened about 8:45 a.m. on the 600 block of South Sacramento Avenue, police News Affairs Officer Veejay Zala said.

The man -- identified by the Cook County Medical Examiner's office as 20-year-old Brendan Williams -- was shot while in the street, Zala said. Williams was taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County, where he was pronounced dead.

He "may have gotten into an altercation" with another man on the street, who then fled the scene, Zala said.

Harrison Area detectives are investigating, but nobody is in custody Monday night.
