No Minor League Baseball In Schaumburg This Year

SCHAUMBURG, Ill. (WBBM) -- It appears new ownership may be stepping up to the plate to take over the Schaumburg Flyers baseball team, but there will not be any minor league games in Schaumburg this season.

As WBBM Newsradio 780's Bernie Tafoya reports, the Schaumburg Flyers are less than two months away from being evicted from Alexian Field, at 1999 S. Springsguth Rd. in Schaumburg, which they have occupied since 1998.

The team owes more than $900,000 in back rent.

The team is also up for sale, and according to Schaumburg Village Manager Ken Fritz, a new potential buyer could put minor league baseball back in Schaumburg next season.

But for this summer, their stadium will get plenty of use anyway.

"We have Roosevelt University who plays here. We have Dominican University who players here. We have the Schaumburg Seminoles who play here. We're talking to USA Baseball, and there are a number of other events like concerts; camps; fantasy camps; kids' camps," Fritz said.

No one from the Schaumburg Flyers was available for comment.
