Collins Street Neighborhood Council president Amy Sanchez tells the Herald-News that residents do not one the stores in their community. This is especially because the pawn shop, for one, would be located near Joliet Central High School, the newspaper reported.
Sanchez tells the newspaper she does not want students or the community to be comfortable with the kind of lending a pawn shop provides.
CashAmerica, the pawn shop company looking to open a Collins Avenue store, had planned for a store on Jefferson Street in Joliet about a year ago, but neighborhood opposition halted that plan, the Herald-News reported.
