NIU's Newcomb Earns MAC Defensive Honor

(CBS) Senior defensive tackle Ron Newcomb posted 2 1/2 sacks and a career-best nine tackles, including five solo stops in NIU's 40-10 victory over Kent State.

For his efforts, Newcomb was named Mid-American Conference West Defensive Player of the Week.

On Kent State's first drive, Newcomb pressured quarterback Spencer Keith into throwing an interception that Nabal Jefferson returned for the Huskies' first score.
