Police Warn Of Delivery Driver Robberies

CHICAGO (STMW) - Police are warning South and Southwest sides businesses of at least two armed robberies of food delivery drivers after a fake order was placed via cell phone.

The robbers place a fake order for food and rob the delivery drivers upon arrival, according to an alert from Wentworth Area detectives. The robberies have happened in the Chicago Lawn and Deering police districts on the South and Southwest sides.

Police said the cell phone number used to place the orders is (773) 412-7771.

Businesses should instruct drivers to immediately determine if a building is vacant or abandoned, and not to exit their vehicles until they make visual contact with customers, the alert said.

Police also advise businesses to request customers leave porch or vestibule lights on, and have drivers re-contact the customer upon arrival.

Anyone with information should call detectives at (312) 747-8382.
