(CBS) Former White Sox left fielder Juan Pierre has agreed to a minor league deal with the Philadelphia Phillies, according to CSNPhilly’s Jim Salisbury.

Pierre was not in the White Sox’s plans for this season after his contract expired. The 34-year-old outfielder hit .279 for the White Sox  last season and stole 27 bases. He was also caught stealing 17 times, however, and his age and inconsistency led to the White Sox moving on without him.

Pierre will get a chance in spring training to make Philadelphia’s major league roster.
