CHICAGO (STMW) -- A 17-year-old boy from Chicago was found shot to death in a garage at an Evergreen Park home in the 2600 block of West 99th Street Friday night.

Preliminary investigation and interviews with several juvenile witnesses have determined that the weapon was brought to the site and that it was considered to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound, Evergreen Park police said in a news release.

Police were called to the garage at the rear of the home at 11:26 p.m. and found the victim lying on the garage floor, police said.

The 17-year-old boy was pronounced dead at the scene at 3:15 a.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office. The cause of death was a gunshot wound in the mouth.

The South Suburban Major Crimes Task Force assisted police in the death investigation.
