2 Men Fatally Shot In Back Of The Yards

CHICAGO (STMW) -- Two men were killed in a drive-by shooting in the Back of the Yards neighborhood Thursday evening on the South Side.

The men were shot at 4:47 p.m. in the 5300 block of South Hoyne Avenue, said police News Affairs Officer Veejay Zala, citing preliminary information.

One man was shot in the head and was dead on the scene, police said. The Cook County Medical Examiner's office identified him as 20-year-old Lamont Matticx of the 2100 block of West 54th Place.

A second man, 20, was initially taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition, Fire Media Affairs said. William S. Herron-Junius, 20, of the 6900 block of South Lowe Avenue, died at the hospital at 7:45 p.m. Thursday, the medical examiner's office said.

Police said the shooting was possibly a drive-by and that Area Central detectives believe the attack is gang-related.
