6 More Chicago Park District Pools Open; 2 Still Closed

CHICAGO (STMW) -- Six Chicago Park District outdoor swimming pools throughout the city opened Sunday after being closed for repairs.

According to the park district, the following outdoor swimming pools opened after they met state standards: Abbott Park, 49 W. 95th St., Gage Park, 2411 W. 55th St., Hale Park, 6258 W. 62nd St., Norwood Park, 5801 N. Natoma Ave., Pulaski Park, 1419 W. Blackhawk St. and Union Park, 1501 W. Randolph St.

The district opened 38 of its 50 outdoor pools on June 15 with a few others opening since then. Two pools opened Saturday at Fuller Park, 331 W. 45th St., and River Park, 5100 N. Francisco.

Two pools are still closed for repairs to comply with the Illinois Swimming Facility Act (ISFA), which increased safety requirements.

Illinois passed a law in October that required pools to have weaker suction systems.

Some other pools are also being repainted and having their linings repaired or replaced.

The last two pools the park district expects to open this week are Hamlin Park, 3035 N. Hoyne Ave. and Portage Park, 4100 N. Long Ave.
