CHICAGO (CBS) — Singer R. Kelly has cancelled a New York City launch party for his memoir “SoulaCoaster,” as well as two TV appearances, after taking ill this morning.

According to a statement from his representatives, Kelly was on his way to New York this morning when he became ill and had to return home to Chicago, after suffering apparent complications from surgery he had last year to treat an abscess on his vocal cords.

Kelly has cancelled upcoming appearances on The Jimmy Fallon Show and The Today Show, as well as a book party being held in his honor tonight in New York.

Kelly’s memoir, “SoulaCoaster,” hits bookstores tomorrow.
