(WSCR) When Marc Panu walked-on to the Vanderbilt football team during his freshman year, he had no idea he’d one day receive a full-ride scholarship.

In the video below, Vanderbilt football coach James Franklin is seen praising fourth-year walk-on fullback Panu during a team film session.

After telling the team how glad he is that Panu joined the football team, the head coach surprised the full back by announcing he had been given a full scholarship for his senior season.

“You’re talking about a guy who just came off knee surgery,” Franklin said to his team before breaking the news. “You’re talking about a guy who keeps his mouth shut and loves being a part of this team. Watch him here (as Panu delivers a block) — finding a way to bring value to the team.

“That’s why I’m so proud to let Marc Panu know that he’s got a full scholarship.”
