Police Shoot Suspect In West Woodlawn

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Police shot a suspect Wednesday night in the West Woodlawn neighborhood on the South Side.

It was the second police-involved shooting in less than two hours.

During the course of an investigation about 9:45 p.m. near the 6600 block of South Langley Avenue, officers approached a male to talk to him when he turned and pointed a handgun at them, according to a statement from police News Affairs.

An officer shot the male, who's exact age was unknown, and he was taken to an unidentified area hospital, according to police.

His condition also was not immediately available.

A weapon was recovered at the scene, police said. No officers were injured.

Independent Police Review Authority spokesman Larry Merritt said officers were attempting to question the male a recent shooting about that happened two blocks away.
